Meet our state and national representatives

Congratulations to the Melbourne Grammar School students who proudly showcased their talent at national or international ball sport championships this year, representing their state and Australia with distinction.

Australian Rules Football

With a home base in Queensland, Year 12 boarder Sam Marshall played for the U18 Allies team in the 2024 AFL National Championships held in July. The team was defeated in the semi-final by two-points. (Allies team members are drawn from New South Wales, ACT, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania.)

Year 6 student, Minnie Champion de Crespigny, was a member of the victorious Victorian team which won the 2024 School Sport Australia Football 12 Years and Under Championships in August 2024. The team was undefeated throughout the competition, scoring a total of 575 points with only nine points scored against them during their seven matches.

Cricket

Louis Stevenson, Year 9, captained the Victorian U15 cricket team to third place in the Australian School Sport National Championships in September 2024.

Year 7 student Max Schofield has been selected for the Victorian U12 cricket team which will compete in the Australian School Sport National Championships later this year.

Golf

Year 6 student Edward Chen will represent Victoria at the School Sport Australia U12 Golf Championships to be held in November 2024.

Hockey

Year 12 boarder Duncan Jackson captained the Victorian team which won the gold medal at the 2024 Hockey Australia Boys U18 Championships in July.

The team was undefeated at the tournament scoring a total of 19 goals compared to four by their opposition across their seven games.

He was also a member of the Australian U21 Men’s team which played in a four match Invitational series against the Malaysian U21 National team in July 2024.

Rugby

Year 12 student Ziggy Whakaari played for the Victorian team at the 2024 Australian Schoolboys Rugby Championship held in July. The team finished in sixth place. This is the second time Ziggy has represented Victoria in this tournament.

Ziggy has also been selected in the Victorian U19 Rugby Squad which will compete in the upcoming Super Rugby Tournament to be held over September / October 2024.*

Touch

Year 9 students Archer Gill, Isaac Oldfield, Zander Nagy and Cooper Taranto, and Year 10 student Eli Batty were selected for the U16 Victorian boys team which competed in the 2024 National Youth Touch Championships in September 2024.

Volleyball

Charlie Lanham, Year 9, and James Gao, Year 10, represented Victoria as members of the U16 team at the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships held in March.

They are currently training with the Victorian U16 Indoor Volleyball State Squad with a view to competing in the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships which will be held later this year.

Water Polo

Year 12 student Daniel Magasanik was a member of the Australian 18&U team that competed in the World Aquatics Men’s U18 Water Polo Championships in March. Playing against 19 of the best other teams in the world, Australia finished tenth in the tournament.

Daniel is also a regular player for the Victorian Phoenix Water Polo club, playing in the Australian Water Polo League.
