Artists: Year 5 and 6 students, 2020
Medium: Various
Year 5 and 6 students were inspired by the Recreate a Masterpiece Getty Museum Challenge to produce a variety of Visual or Media artworks.
They engaged in monotype printing using objects found at home; the students experimented with the art elements of colour, shape and line to draw onto foil and glad-wrap. They printed their drawings onto paper, reflecting on the marks and visual textures produced.
Using photography and art apps of their choice, the students produced contemporary recreations of still-life, landscape and portrait masterpieces. They manipulated digital images using a variety of app ‘tools’, filters, and through modifying colour balance, saturation and contrast.
The artwork in this exhibition was produced during a period of off-campus learning.

The artistic process
Here, three student artists explain the thought and creative processes they used to develop their artwork.

“I put small curvy lines for the tip of the wave to create the illusion it is moving.”
Alexander

“I used the element of texture in my artwork. There were many different textures in the portrait of Mona Lisa – her hair, her clothes etc. I used swirly textures on her hair so that it looked more like her hair and so it was a bit 3D. Her clothes had a completely different texture, so I did some hatching and cross hatching.”
Amelia

“I used a textured brush to combine modern and old-school art.”
