The Old Melburnian Cricket Club (OMCC) continues to bring Old Melburnians together through a shared love of the game and a strong sense of mateship. Fielding one side each season, the club typically sees around 30 players pull on the whites each year. Most are Melbourne Grammar alumni, alongside friends and a handful of overseas players. “It’s a pretty tight-knit group,” says OMCC President Tom Healey (OM 2008). “There’s always a good time to be had, whether it’s on the field or afterwards.”
Tom joined the club not too long after leaving school. At the time, the playing group was older, but over the years he has seen the club evolve. This season, Will Dixon (OM 2020) has stepped in as co-president, alongside co-captain Ollie Will (OM 2023), both of whom have played a key role in rejuvenating the side with younger players.
The competition is relaxed but competitive, played in good spirit on Sundays. With players aged from 18 to 39, the mix of experience and youth is one of the club’s strengths. “It’s competitive once the game starts, but it’s never overly serious,” Tom explains. “If you enjoy good, solid cricket without the pressures of subbies or district, it’s the perfect balance.” Tom’s standout memory is being part of the club’s first premiership in more than 50 years. “That was pretty special,” he reflects. A second premiership two years later capped off a strong period for the club.
Now largely a side of players under 25, OMCC looks ahead to finals with confidence. For those keen to enjoy solid cricket without the intensity of district or sub-district competition, the club offers the right balance of competitiveness and camaraderie.
