2019 Post-school destinations

The Class of 2019 achieved outstanding results across a wide range of disciplines, so it is no surprise that they have pursued an equally diverse range of post-school destinations.

More than 60% of students received a VTAC offer for their first preference for tertiary study. This year, after all VTAC and interstate offers were made, 91% of students had received an offer for their third preference or higher. Numerous students received multiple offers, having also applied to study at interstate and overseas institutions.

Offers made to our students by interstate institutions include ANU (14), The University of Queensland (1), Charles Sturt University (1), UNSW (1) and Sydney University (2).

Overall the number of applications to study overseas was lower than in previous years. In 2019, four students applied to study in the UK. One student has been offered a place at the University of Oxford to study History. The others received offers for places at Imperial College London, King’s College, University of St Andrews, University of London and Durham University.

For those who applied to study in the USA, it is known that offers have been made to admit students to the University of California, Berkeley (2), UCLA (1), Columbia University (1), University of Pennsylvania (1), Ohio State University (1) and the University of Iowa (1). Most of these students are still to make a final decision on whether they will take up their offers to US tertiary institutions.

Management and Commerce courses continue to dominate as the field of study attracting the most offers. Five students have direct entry into medicine at Monash, with at least one other student choosing to study a broad-based biomedicine degree prior to Graduate medicine. There has also been an expansion of professional health aspirations to include dental science, physiotherapy and pharmacy this year.
