Paul Klee Grid and Portrait Art

Artists: Year 2 students
Medium: Various

Paul Klee was a Swiss born German painter whose individual style was influenced by cubism. Klee’s portraits titled ‘Senecio’ and ‘Once Emerged from the Gray of Night’ were the inspiration behind the collection of work in this exhibition.

After viewing and discussing Klee’s works, students were challenged to create either a portrait or a grid containing a message.

Students were encouraged to select warm or cool colours in the portrait task and use coloured pencils or a drawing app to create their composition.

Creating a grid artwork entails developing a carefully thought-out colour layout along with words students wanted to share with their audience. They convey how art can communicate a powerful message.

The artwork in this exhibition was produced during a period of off-campus learning.
