Leaps and bounds

Building courage through Sport Performance

Melbourne Grammar’s vision for sport has always extended beyond the scoreboard.

Sport plays a central role in the School’s holistic approach to education, helping young people develop confidence, resilience, discipline and the courage to test themselves.

Since 2024, donor support for Sport Performance has created three new General Excellence Scholarships with a preference for students who demonstrate exceptional promise in AFL and Soccer, as well as multiple professional coaching roles at the School.

That commitment is now taking an important step forward in the development of a dedicated sport performance centre directly adjacent to the Strickland PE Centre. Designed to support students from Year 7 onwards, at every stage of their sporting journey, the space will provide access to strength and conditioning equipment, athletic development resources and a purpose-built environment that promotes physical development, wellbeing and performance.

This next chapter has been made possible thanks to the enduring generosity of Henry Stuart Logan Clark (OM 1921), whose Will established the Warren Clark bequest.

Henry’s gift continues to create opportunities for Melbourne Grammar students decades after his lifetime, and now through the sport performance centre, the School honours a benefactor whose commitment to future generations remains deeply relevant today.

Born in Toorak in 1902, Henry Stuart Logan Clark attended Melbourne Grammar before pursuing a successful career as a stockbroker and later serving with distinction during the Second World War. Through the charitable trust established by his estate, his generosity continues to support the institutions and communities that shaped his life.

Dan Martin, Acting Head of Senior School Sport and Head of Athletic Development says the new performance centre reflects a vision of sport as a pathway to growth for every student.

“Whether a student is training in a First team or simply seeking to become stronger, healthier and more confident, the space will provide opportunities for growth and development,” he says.
