The Academic Assembly is an annual highlight of the School year providing our community with an opportunity to recognise academic excellence.
Once again, this year Senior School came together to celebrate the 2021 VCE results, and to congratulate the highest achieving students in that cohort.
Twenty Class of 2021 students received Academic Colours during the ceremony in recognition of their outstanding results, each gaining an ATAR of 99 or higher.
The following students also received Melbourne Grammar School Academic Distinctions, being the top students in their cohort:

- Anthony Chen
- William Flintoft, Proxime Accessit (Dux runner-up)
- Peter Frangos, 2021 Academic Head of School (Dux, based on his VCE results)
- Charlie Froomes
- Max Ramsden
- Joel Richter
- Joseph Wheelahan
- Yicheng (Ethan) Yang
Peter Frangos, William Flintoft and Kelvin Cao all received the highest possible VCE result – an ATAR of 99.95. William was also the 2021 Captain of School.
Along with three other students receiving Academic awards, Peter and William began their Melbourne Grammar School education in Prep at Grimwade House, our coeducational primary school.

Year 11 excellence
Twenty-one 2021 Year 11 students were awarded Academic Colours at the Assembly, with Roddy Dong also receiving the Richard Larkins Award for the highest achieving Year 11 student.
Consistent with the School’s stance that excellence can equate to a personal best, the Year 10 and 11 students demonstrating the greatest progress during 2021 were also recognised. Congratulations to Adrian Wang and Hudson Wittner.
Other 2021 VCE result highlights
- The median ATAR is 90.05
- 10.6% of our students achieved an ATAR of 99+, placing them in the top 1% of the State
- 30.7% of our students achieved an ATAR of 95+, placing them in the top 5% of the State
- 50.3% of our students achieved an ATAR of 90+, placing them in the top 10% of the State
- Seven students achieved the maximum score of 50 in one or more of their subjects
- 8.5% of all study (subject) scores were graded as 45+, placing those students in the top 1% of their subjects
- 24.4% of all study (subject) scores were graded as 40+, placing those students in the top 8% of their subjects
